“It is very unfortunate, yes, because this action does not reflect the residents of the field who have always highly respected democracy and tolerance,” he said, Tuesday, August 9, 2022.
Alwi emphasized that differences of opinion and political choices are normal, but these differences should not lead to actions that harm other parties. “Different opinions or different political views are normal, but don’t let the differences that should be our wealth turn into divisions.”
The former chairman of the coordinating body (badko) of the Islamic Student Association (HMI) also urged that the incident be thoroughly investigated, so as not to set a bad precedent for democracy.
“This incident must be of special concern, especially to the apparatus and politicians. The apparatus must immediately investigate and arrest the perpetrators of vandalism because these perpetrators are trying to hinder the freedom of democracy and opinion,” he said.
He also stressed that such incidents should not happen again. Because as a democratic country, everyone must respect and respect the freedom of politics and expression.
“Politicians must also take lessons from this incident. In the future, they must better educate supporters and sympathizers of their respective parties. I hope that this incident will not happen again,” he said.
Moreover, said Alwi, the 2024 election contestation is getting closer, so that all parties must be more mature in politics, there should no longer be actions that tarnish the dignity of democracy.
“Moreover, we know that the 2024 election is getting closer and closer, therefore politicians must be better at recruiting or providing political knowledge to their prospective supporters,” he concluded.
