Nasir Djamil Commends Indonesian Police for Role in Capturing Alice Guo, Now Sentenced to Life in Manila

Fajarasia.id  – Indonesian lawmaker M. Nasir Djamil of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has expressed deep appreciation for the Indonesian National Police (Polri) following their crucial role in the arrest of Alice Guo, the former mayor of Bamban, Philippines, who was recently sentenced to life imprisonment by a Manila court on Thursday (Nov 20) for human trafficking and organized crime.

Although Guo’s arrest took place more than a year ago, on September 3, 2024, Nasir emphasized that Polri’s involvement was a key factor enabling the Philippine judicial process to move forward and ultimately deliver the heavy sentence. Guo was apprehended by Polri’s Criminal Investigation Unit (Jatanras) after Indonesia’s immigration authorities confirmed her presence in the country.

“Polri’s success in securing Alice Guo in Indonesia and handing her over to Philippine authorities is clear evidence of how our police play a strategic role in international law enforcement,” Nasir stated. He noted that the operation demonstrated Indonesia’s ability to respond effectively to transnational and organized crime.

Nasir stressed that the Guo case serves as a reminder of the growing complexity of modern crimes such as human trafficking, cybercrime, and international scam operations. He urged the government to continue strengthening Polri’s capacity through enhanced resources, modern policing technology, and deeper international cooperation.

According to Nasir, the life sentence handed down to Guo represents a significant victory in combating international crime and delivering justice to victims. “This case shows that cross-border collaboration can produce real results in tackling global crime. Polri has made a significant contribution, and this effort must be further reinforced,” he said.

Nasir expressed hope that this achievement would serve as momentum for Polri to expand its international networks and partnerships, enabling Indonesia to better anticipate and address increasingly complex transnational crimes.****
