Fire in Benhil Destroys 20 Homes, 150 Residents Evacuated to Tanah Abang Sports Hall

Fajarasia.id  – A massive fire broke out in the densely populated Bendungan Hilir (Benhil) area of Tanah Abang on Sunday night, destroying at least 20 houses and forcing 150 residents from 33 families to evacuate to the Tanah Abang Sports Hall (GOR).

According to Mohamad Yohan, Head of the Data and Disaster Information Center at BPBD DKI Jakarta, the first report was received at 8:32 p.m. Local authorities immediately deployed a joint team consisting of firefighters, BPBD, PMI, and other agencies to the scene. “The blaze was successfully extinguished at 10:25 p.m. after intensive efforts using 20 fire trucks,” Yohan explained.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was triggered by an electrical short circuit. While material losses are still being assessed, officials confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries. “For casualties, we can confirm there are none,” Yohan emphasized.

The 150 displaced residents are currently being accommodated at the Tanah Abang Sports Hall, where BPBD and related agencies are distributing emergency aid.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of electrical safety in densely populated neighborhoods. Jakarta, which is particularly vulnerable to fires during the dry season and periods of extreme heat, requires heightened vigilance to ensure community safety.****
