Fajarasia.co – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi contacted Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi via telephone, Wednesday (25/5), to strengthen communication and coordination to ensure the success of holding the Group of 20 Countries (G20) Summit in Bali.
“China strongly supports Indonesia in carrying out its duties as the host of the Bali Summit,” Wang said as released by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Beijing, Thursday (26/5/2022).
He sees Asia has gained momentum in global governance as Indonesia, Thailand and Cambodia will host important multilateral conferences.
Likewise, China is preparing for the Summit of the Group of Developing Countries in Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS).
“Recently, a joint statement from several Asian countries was agreed to strengthen solidarity in facing common challenges,” said Wang, who is also a member of the State Council or at the coordinating ministerial level.
He invited all countries in Asia to play an active role in creating peace, stability, and quality development, both on a regional and global scale.
“President Joko Widodo on several occasions has emphasized that the G20 is an economic forum rather than a political forum since its inception and China fully agrees with this (statement),” said Foreign Minister Wang.
He considered the United Nations Security Council as the right organization to discuss political and security issues, while the G20 should remain committed to macroeconomic policy coordination.
“China firmly supports Indonesia to play its role as chairman, guide the G20 to the right path, achieve the set goals agenda, and prevent intervention,” said Wang.
The two foreign ministers, who often meet on various occasions, also exchanged views on the Ukraine issue.
Indonesia and China call on the international community to work together to continue peace talks in order to reach a ceasefire in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the MFA said.****
