When meeting Surya Paloh at NasDem Tower, last August 22, Puan emphasized the importance of communication and synergy of political parties in developing Indonesia in the future. Especially in carrying out Bung Karno’s ideals.
Like when she met Bang Surya, in her meeting with Prabowo Subianto on Sunday, September 4, 2022, Puan also emphasized the issue of agreement and commitment to build a better nation in the future.
In an interview with one of the national online media as quoted on Saturday (24/09), the first woman who served as Chair of the DPR RI gave an explanation of the good intentions of the political agenda to meet a number of general chairmen of political parties.
“(Essentially) how then can we work together to build Indonesia in the future. Not only in the 2024 contestation, but after the contestation it is also important. What will we build, what are our goals together,” said Puan in written statement.
The grandson of Bung Karno said that the 2024 presidential election contestation should not make people polarized by differences in choices.
Moreover, the differences to the point of division. In fact, the purpose of democracy should be to unite after it was held. Because there is a more important goal, namely how to build a better future for this nation.
“Political differences, differences in choices, it’s not a problem, because it’s democracy. But after that we will return to Indonesia as a whole, don’t fall apart,” explained Puan.
To the political elite, not only within the PDI-P but also to all political parties, Puan reminded them to jointly teach the public about polite and ethical politics. The big work of political parties that cannot be ‘only’ left to the election organizers.
“I hope we can build lessons for the community to convey political aspirations in a polite and ethical manner. So don’t curse each other, blaspheme each other, make a personal statement to each other. But how to build a democratic party that is cheerful, joyful, for the people to be able to choose a leader it was according to his wishes,” explained Puan Maharani.
He then regretted the polarization that occurred in the 2019 election. Where the difference in choices makes the people who should be holding hands after the election are actually divided. No longer considers closest colleagues as brothers, until the breakup of friendship.
“(We should) both realize when it’s time to compete, when it’s time to compete. It’s not necessary if we want to beat the opponent, we will then do everything possible,” said Puan.
He added that what we must both respect and respect is that we already have Pancasila as well as Bhineka Tunggal Ika.
It’s okay to be different, but that difference shouldn’t make us fall apart. Like religious tolerance, where differences can be addressed with warmth and togetherness.
Finally, Puan Maharani said about the mechanism for determining the presidential and vice presidential candidates for the PDI-P.
He said, according to the results of the PDI-P’s congress and national working meeting, that the decision was entirely not the prerogative of General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri.
He admitted that the PDI-P could nominate its own pair of presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election. However, the PDI-P still opens space for other parties to join one line to welcome the upcoming five-year democratic party of 202r.
