Fajarasia.id – A breakthrough innovation from the palm plantation sector has captivated visitors at Paluta Expo 2025, held to celebrate the 18th Anniversary of Padang Lawas Utara (Paluta) Regency. PT Barumun Agro Sentosa (BAS) introduced a unique product: brown sugar made from palm shoots, which quickly became the star attraction of the exhibition.
Raja Imron Ritongah, BAS’s Public Relations Officer, highlighted the economic potential of the product. “Palm shoot brown sugar offers high economic value and tastes very similar to traditional palm sugar. This innovation can serve as a competitive alternative while opening new business opportunities for local communities,” he explained during the exhibition on Thursday (November 20, 2025).
Beyond palm shoot sugar, BAS also showcased several other flagship products, including:
- Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) weighing between 50–80 kg
- Superior palm seedlings
- Crude Palm Oil (CPO)
The company is currently in the process of securing official permits to market palm shoot brown sugar, aiming to bring the product into mass production.
Running from November 18–22, Paluta Expo 2025 featured a vibrant mix of local product exhibitions, cultural performances, and appearances by both regional and national artists. The spotlight on palm shoot brown sugar underscores how local innovation can compete on a broader scale and potentially emerge as a new flagship commodity from Paluta.(Haryan Harahap/Tim)
