Fajarasia.id Washington, DC – Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sari Yuliati, reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to building a high-integrity carbon market as part of global efforts to tackle the climate crisis. Speaking at a discussion titled “Towards High-Integrity Carbon Markets in Indonesia: Progress and Prospects”, she addressed government representatives, academics, partner organizations, certification bodies, and standard-setting institutions.
In her remarks, Yuliati emphasized Indonesia’s unique role as one of the world’s largest tropical forest owners. “Our forests do not only breathe for Indonesia, but also for the world,” she said, underscoring the nation’s responsibility and opportunity in the global fight against climate change.
She highlighted that Indonesia’s strategic assets—forests, land, and mangroves—position the country as a vital global carbon sink. By quantifying the carbon absorption potential of these ecosystems, Indonesia could unlock green investment opportunities worth billions of dollars.
Yuliati further stressed that the climate crisis is no longer an abstract academic issue but a lived reality across provinces. Nature-based solutions, she argued, are essential to ensuring environmental sustainability while supporting national development goals.
Her speech concluded with a call for cross-sector collaboration, urging both domestic stakeholders and international partners to ensure Indonesia’s carbon market operates transparently, credibly, and delivers tangible benefits for communities and the world.****
