Budget support is urgently needed by the Wondama Bay Regency Government, especially in terms of the river flow normalization program that causes flooding, as well as the rehabilitation of watershed areas as a disaster mitigation effort.
“For example, the Kabouw river/river bridge in Wondiboi District, Manggurai River, Anggris, Wanayo River in Wasior District, also Ati River in Rasiei District. Last year we proposed to normalize some of these rivers, but there has been no response, so we need to try again,” said the former Head of the Wondama Bappeda.

At least 77 houses were severely, moderately and lightly damaged due to being submerged in mud and flood-borne materials. A number of infrastructure such as roads and bridges were also damaged.
The Head of BPBD Wondama Bay Aser Waroi stated that his party experienced many obstacles in handling disasters due to limited budget and facilities and infrastructure.
“So far, we have had difficulty mitigating disasters when a disaster occurs because we do not have the equipment and our budget is also very limited. We need assistance from the Center for equipment because it is impossible to expect from our very limited APBD. BPBD should be given a DAK for disaster so that it can carry out activities disaster mitigation,” said Waroi.****
