Fajarasia.co – The China national basketball team arrived in Jakarta to compete in the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, 12-24 July.
China became the second team to arrive in the country after Jordan, who had already been in Indonesia after playing the last match of the third window of the 2023 World Cup Qualification against Indonesia on 4 July.
Based on a written statement from the FIBA Asia Cup on Thursday, the Chinese national team group consisted of 30 people who were divided into two groups.
The first group of 25 people arrived in Jakarta on Wednesday (6/7) evening. They flew from Australia after undergoing the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifying match in Melbourne. Meanwhile, the second group that departed from Fuzhou, China arrived on Thursday (7/7) yesterday afternoon.
According to a report by the Xinhua news agency, Wednesday (6/7), the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) added five players to the China line-up for the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup because several team members contracted COVID-19 during a qualifying match in Australia.
Currently the players are still living in Melbourne to undergo isolation and will follow to Jakarta if they are declared recovered before the tournament starts.
China will face South Korea, Bahrain and Taiwan in the preliminary round of Group B of the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup.
The Bamboo Curtain country is the country that has the most FIBA Asian Cup titles or championships at the level of its predecessor with a collection of 16 titles, the competition was held in 1980.
After the Chinese delegation, the next group will arrive on Saturday (9/7), namely South Korea, Saudi Arabia, and part of the Australian team.
Meanwhile on Sunday (10/7) there will be groups from New Zealand, Taiwan, Japan, Kazakhstan, Bahrain, the Philippines, Syria, India, and Australia. The Lebanese and Iranian teams will be the last teams to be in Jakarta on Monday (11/7).*****
