Fajarasia.co – Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dr. (H.C) Puan Maharani, encouraged the Indonesian contingent’s achievements at the 2021 Vietnam SEA Games to be a catalyst for the Indonesian national team to improve their achievements at the 32nd SEA Games, which is planned to be held in Cambodia in May 2023.
One of the highlights of Puan Maharani is Indonesia’s achievements in the mother of sports branches such as athletics, swimming, and gymnastics. In Puan’s note, the medal target in this sport has missed a lot at the 2021 SEA Games.
“Cambodia’s 2023 SEA Games must be prepared carefully. I really hope the mother of sports branch can show more teeth next year,” said Puan, Monday (23/05).
“In the 2021 Vietnam SEA Games, I see that for the mother of sports, we have lost a lot of medals. With the existing potential, we have to strengthen this sport again. I hope the government will take this as an evaluation material, so that the guidance for the mother of sports branch will continue to be improved in the future,” added Puan.
For the record, Indonesia only won 2 gold medals from the target of 5 gold in athletics. In athletics, there are 47 events contested.
For swimming, Indonesia brought home 2 gold medals, from 48 events. Missed the target pegged 5 gold. Meanwhile, for gymnastics, Indonesia only won 2 gold medals from the 21 events it competed in.
“Getting a gold medal in the mother of sports branch has not reached the target, the number is still far below the number of events being contested. As a leading sport, I encourage the parent organization of the mother of sports branch to develop programs and mature strategies to improve performance in this branch,” added Puan.
In addition to the record for the mother of sports branch, in particular, Puan is proud because Indonesia for the first time managed to get gold for the basketball sport after defeating the Philippines at the 2021 SEA Games.
“At the 2021 SEA Games, we have succeeded in making history because for the first time since participating in the SEA Games in 1977, the Indonesian basketball team was able to get a gold medal,” said the first woman who served as Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives.
“Moreover, Indonesia managed to beat a country that excels in basketball. Now the Indonesian Men’s Basketball National Team has been taken into account at the Southeast Asian level,” added Puan proudly.
The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture hopes that the success of the Red and White team at the 2021 SEA Games will make Indonesia increasingly recognized in world sporting events, including to become the national team spirit booster in preparing matches for the upcoming 2023 SEA Games.
“Because this success is the success of the entire Indonesian nation. The Indonesian national team must increasingly show its achievements in future sports events and continue to make the nation proud,” he concluded. (*)
