Fajarasia.co – The National Border Management Agency (BNPP) targets border development next year to focus on the Papua region. Previously, the development of border areas was carried out in Natuna and currently on Miangas Island.
The plan was submitted by the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) who is also the Head of BNPP Tito Karnavian during the launching of the 2022 Integrated Border Development Movement (Gerbangdutas) in Melonguane, Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, Tuesday (24/5/2022).
Present at the declaration were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD, BNPP Secretary Restuardy Daud, North Sulawesi Governor Olly Dondokambey, Talaud Islands Regent Elly Engelbert Lasut.
According to Tito, the launching of Pintudutas 2022 with the theme “Development of National Borders to Support Economic Recovery and Structural Reform” aims to strengthen defense and equitable development at the border, especially on Miangas Island.
Moreover, Miangas is included in the inhabited Outer Small Islands (PPKT) which is a priority in handling because of its location directly adjacent to the Philippines. “We have built all the borders, last year we focused on Natuna, now we focus on Miangas, next year we will focus on Papua,” he said.
The former National Police Chief said that the government would continue to carry out development in border areas. Because developed and developing regions will have an impact on defense. “When we know areas that are prone to crossing, we will strengthen development and this will also have an impact on defense,” he said.
Tito said the development of the state border area in 2022 will be carried out in 222 sub-districts in priority locations in 54 districts and cities in 15 provinces.
Similarly, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD said that building Indonesia from the periphery by strengthening regions and villages within the framework of the Unitary State of Indonesia (NKRI) is the government’s commitment to national development at the border.
“Borders are fragile, sometimes we are poorer than neighboring areas, sometimes there is smuggling, there is conflict, there are violations of the law,” he said. *****
