Deputy Police Chief Dedi Prasetyo: “We Must Never Tire of Improving Ourselves”

Fajarasia.id  – Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Wakapolri) Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to continuous reform, stressing that the police must never grow weary in their efforts to improve.

Speaking during a hearing with Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta, Dedi emphasized that reform within the police force is an ongoing process guided by the directives of the National Police Chief. “Reform is a continuous journey. We must never tire of improving ourselves,” he stated.

Dedi explained that the police have established a reform acceleration team to respond to public demands and criticisms. “We have recorded all demands, including those from human rights activists and research institutions such as Sara Institute. We have acted swiftly in line with the Chief’s directives to form a transformation acceleration team,” he said.

Since early 2025, Polri has been conducting evaluations of its performance to enhance service quality and accountability.

To strengthen reform efforts, Polri has collaborated with external partners, including Kompas Research and Development, to map out areas for improvement. The assessment highlighted three core functions: maintaining public order and security (harkamtibmas), law enforcement, and public services.

“Harkamtibmas received strong positive feedback from the public, showing appreciation for our core duties,” Dedi noted.

Despite progress, Dedi acknowledged that improvements are still needed, particularly at the regional level. Polri has introduced ongoing measures, including assessments of recruitment and leadership at the precinct and district levels.

“We are conducting evaluations of police chiefs at the sector, district, and directorate levels. Proper recruitment and training will produce quality officers,” he explained.

Dedi concluded by stressing that reform within Polri is not a one-time effort but a sustained commitment. Through evaluation, collaboration, and improved recruitment, the police aim to become more professional, transparent, and responsive to public needs.****
