BNPB Reports Challenges in Search for 26 Landslide Victims in Banjarnegara

Fajarasia.id – The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has provided an update on ongoing search operations for landslide victims in Cilacap and Banjarnegara. As of Tuesday (Nov 18, 2025), search and rescue teams continue to face significant obstacles in the field.

BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari confirmed that in Cilacap, 18 victims have been found dead, with five people still missing. “The remaining search in Cilacap is for five individuals,” he stated.

In Banjarnegara, however, progress has been slower. Of the 26 residents reported missing, only two have been recovered. Abdul explained that unstable ground conditions at the landslide site pose serious risks to rescuers. “Search efforts are limited to areas deemed safe, and several operations had to be suspended due to ongoing soil movement,” he said.

BNPB Chief Lt. Gen. Suharyanto revealed that the agency has deployed weather modification operations (OMC) to support the search. The initiative aims to reduce heavy rainfall that could hinder rescue efforts. “OMC has been conducted for the past five days, and we have now added two aircraft to strengthen the operation,” Suharyanto noted.

BNPB emphasized that the safety of personnel remains the top priority. With the ground still shifting, search operations are being carried out cautiously and systematically. Authorities hope that these measures will accelerate the recovery process while minimizing risks for SAR teams.
