Fajarasia.co – The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, has pushed for a rearrangement of maternity or maternity leave. Puan suggested that maternity leave be granted for 6 months in the draft law (RUU) on Maternal and Child Welfare (KIA).
Responding to this, Member of the Indonesian Parliament, Evita Nursanty, said that Puan Maharani’s proposal was a commitment and concern for children’s nutritional needs.
“I support it, because it (the proposed 6-month leave) is positive and beneficial for mothers and babies. I believe it is very useful because I really feel that for a 3-month-old baby, it’s too small to stay,” said Evita to reporters, in Jakarta. , Monday (20/6/2022).
So, said Evita, Puan’s proposal would be able to prevent stunting in the baby. Because, with this time, the baby will have his nutritional intake fulfilled, one of which is through exclusive breastfeeding.
“Yes, you have to pay attention to breastfeeding, and it is best to give breast milk to children for 6 months. So that the nutrition of the newborn child has actually been fulfilled,” said the politician from the Central Java III electoral district.
“What is clear is that during those 6 months, the mother can give full attention to her baby, and that is the most important thing,” he added.
In her statement some time ago, Puan emphasized the importance of rearranging the period of maternity leave, which is important to ensure child development and recovery for mothers after giving birth. In addition, this maternity leave is also to reduce the stunting rate with the role of the mother being more dominant.
“The DPR will continue to carry out intensive communication with various stakeholders regarding this matter. We hope that the Government’s commitment to support this regulation is for the future of the nation’s next generation,” said Puan.****
