Fajarasia.id – A tragic incident occurred in Setialaksana Village, Cabangbungin District, Bekasi Regency, West Java, when a man was struck by lightning while caught in heavy rain in the middle of a rice field. The victim died instantly at the scene.
Cabangbungin Police Chief, AKP Alex Chandra, confirmed the fatal accident. “The lightning strike caused the victim to die on the spot,” he told reporters on Wednesday (Nov 19).
Sudden Strike During Heavy Rain
The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon (Nov 18) as torrential rain swept across the area. The victim, who was still working in the rice field, was unable to escape when lightning suddenly struck. “The lightning came without warning, leaving the victim no chance to save himself,” Alex explained.
Police Warning to Residents
Following the incident, police urged residents to remain vigilant during the current extreme weather conditions. Alex reminded farmers and others who often work outdoors to immediately seek shelter or return home when rain is accompanied by lightning.
“We advise the public not to force themselves to stay outside during heavy rain, especially in rice fields which are open areas highly vulnerable to lightning strikes,” he added.

Authorities emphasized that the rainy season often brings increased risks of lightning-related accidents, particularly in rural areas where many residents spend time in open fields. The police hope this tragedy serves as a reminder for communities to prioritize safety during severe weather.****
