Gathering with Tuan Guru Turmudzi Lombok, Puan Gets Support for the 2024 Presidential Election

Fajarasia.co – DPR Speaker Puan Maharani met with the charismatic cleric Tuan Guru Turmudzi Badarudin at the Qomarul Huda Bagu Islamic Boarding School, Pringgarata, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). In the meeting, Puan received support from Tuan Guru Turmudzi to run in the 2024 presidential election.

“I came to meet with Tuan Guru Turmuzi besides continuing the tradition of good relations with the scholars taught by my grandfather Bung Karno, I also continued to connect with Mrs. Megawati Soekarnoputri,” said Puan about her visit to the Qomarul Huda Islamic boarding school, Saturday (27/8/2022).

“This Qomarul Huda Bagu Islamic Boarding School has a great history of Islamic moderation and Indonesian democracy. This is where the Nahdlatul Ulama National Conference of Alim Ulama was held in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on 17-20 November 1997. One of the recommendations of the National Conference was about the position of women in Islam,” he continued.

During the meeting, Tuan Guru Turmudzi Badarudin, who wore a turban, cap, and an all-white shirt, re-explained the role of the Islamic boarding school he led in organizing the very monumental National Conference.

“Munas alim ulama is like ending a long debate about women’s leadership in Islam. The National Conference affirms equality between men and women in Islam, also recognizes certain advantages in women when they become leaders,” explained Tuan Guru Turmudzi.

Tuan Guru Turmudzi who had continued his religious education at the Grand Mosque, Mecca, Saudi Arabia for six years was one of the scholars who most supported the decision of the National Conference.

“I came to Lombok and wanted to dig further about the fatwa that allowed women to become presidents in our country,” said Puan.

In the meeting attended by Deputy Chairperson of the MPR Ahmad Basarah, Tuan Guru Turmudzi gave important points about the relationship between religion and the state, especially the role and position of women’s leadership from an Islamic point of view.

Women’s leadership in Islam has indeed become a hot topic in Indonesia. There are pros and cons in it.

In fact, the Qur’an has clearly stated how big the role of women as leaders is, for example it is mentioned in QS al-Naml/27: 23. Tuan Guru Turmudzi quotes the word of Allah SWT.

“Indeed I found there was a woman who ruled over them. She was endowed with everything and had a great throne,” he said.

Furthermore, Tuan Guru Turmudzi explained the story of the king or female leadership in the Qur’an told in three consecutive verses in Surah al-Naml, starting from verse 22, verse 23, and finally verse 24.

According to Tuan Guru Turmudzi, the verses in al-Naml’s letter were the basis for accepting Mrs. Megawati Soekarnoputri as President of the Republic of Indonesia in 2001-2003.

Tuan Guru Turmudzi also alluded to the history of the archipelago, precisely in Aceh, which is known as the Veranda of Makkah. He said that the people in Aceh have never had problems with women’s leadership in Islam.

Tuan Guru Turmudzi added, Aceh as one of the oldest Islamic kingdoms in the archipelago as well as one of the faces of Islam in Indonesia, shows how women’s political rights have their place in Islam.

According to Tuan Guru Turmudzi, Alim ulama and the people of Aceh have never rejected a kingdom led by a female king or called a queen. The proof is that in history there were four women who had led the Kingdom of Aceh between 1641 and 1699, namely Sri Ratu Safiatuddin Tajul Alam (1641-1675), Sri Ratu Naqiatuddin Nurul Alam (1675-1678), Sri Ratu Zaqiyatuddin Inayat Syah (1678-78). 1688), and Sri Ratu Zainatuddin Kamalat Syah (1688-1699).

The acceptance of a female king in Islam was not without reason, but also based on the wisdom of a charismatic cleric from Aceh, Shaykh Abdul Rauf as-Singkili, or known as Syiah Kuala (1591-1996) who had the title qadli malikul fair, namely a just king judge.

Syiah Kuala is a scholar of commentator and fiqh from Aceh who is well-known in the history of writing commentary in Indonesia as the author of the first 30 chapters of the complete Qur’anic commentary in Malay with the title Tarjuman al-Mustafid.

“This means that now there is no longer any reason to argue against women’s leadership in Islam for the Indonesian people. In addition to the religious basis according to the fatwa of the NU scholars, female leaders also have historical foundations, such as those shown in Aceh, “said Tuan Guru Turmuzi.

“In addition, the ideology of Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution as our country’s constitution also does not prohibit women from becoming leaders,” he added.

At the end of the meeting, Tuan Guru Turmuzi supported and prayed for Puan to gain the people’s trust in the 2024 presidential election and gain the pleasure of Allah SWT to become President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Tuan Guru Turmudzi also gave a gift of a red veil which he wore directly to Puan.

After meeting Tuan Guru Turmudzi, Puan then met with the students of Qomarul Huda Bagu Islamic Boarding School. Puan’s presence received a warm welcome from the students.

To Puan, the students expressed their aspirations to be able to have a library as a school and campus facility at the Qomarul Huda Bagu Islamic Boarding School. Puan is ready to guard the hopes of the students.

“President Jokowi through Presidential Decree No. 22 of 2015 has set October 22 as Santri Day. As the President of the PDI-P, he has proven his acknowledgment of the role of santri in the struggle to seize and defend the independence of the Indonesian nation,” said the chairman of the PDIP DPP.

“The state’s recognition of the role of santri must be proven by the real work of the santri, especially in protecting the Pancasila State from various undermining who want to replace Pancasila with other ideologies,” added Puan.

Puan’s presence at the Qomarul Huda Bagu Islamic Boarding School was also accompanied by the Governor of NTB, Zulkieflimansyah.****
