Fajarasia.co – Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said Indonesia was trying to create a comfortable situation during the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) in Nusa Dua, Bali, on 7-8 July 2022.
“Since the beginning of this meeting, we have continued to consult and communicate with all member countries. And we have said that we want to create a comfortable atmosphere for all,” said Retno when met on the sidelines of the G20 FMM in Nusa Dua, Thursday.
With continuous approaches and consultations, he said, the meeting became an important moment where all major players in the world sat together to discuss various current global issues, including the Russo-Ukrainian war.
To support the convenience of all countries present, the meeting of foreign ministers and other activities outside the meeting are designed to be optional and informal.
Regarding the absence of the G7 countries at the G20 FMM dinner as a form of protest against the participation of the Russian Foreign Minister, Retno said this had been previously communicated to Indonesia as G20 President.
“And I say, I can understand your position. Because all must feel comfortable. Just to be here, I appreciate it. They have taken such extraordinary efforts that they decided to be here and want to show the commitment of all G20 member countries to the G20,” said Retno.
The absence of these countries in the informal activities of the G20, according to Retno, is not something that comes as a surprise to Indonesia.
“So there is no surprise at all. Indonesia as the host country respects the position of each country,” he said.
The G20 FMM will discuss two main issues, namely strengthening multilateralism and food and energy security.
The meeting was attended by foreign ministers of G20 members, representatives of 10 invited countries including Ukraine, as well as representatives of international organizations.*****
