BNPB Recovers Eight More Bodies in Cilacap Landslide

Fajarasia.id  – Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has recovered eight additional bodies from the landslide that struck Cibeunying Village, Majenang District, Cilacap Regency, on Saturday (Nov 15, 2025). The discovery brings the total death toll to 11, while 12 people remain missing.

Timeline of the Disaster

The landslide occurred on Thursday (Nov 13). Rescue teams found two victims on the first day, one on the second, and eight more on the third day of operations.

BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari confirmed that 520 joint SAR personnel have been deployed to accelerate search and rescue efforts. “With the latest findings, 12 people are still being searched for,” he said in a press release on Sunday (Nov 16).

Heavy Equipment Deployment

To speed up operations, seven excavators were mobilized on Saturday morning to carefully dig through areas suspected of burying victims. Deputy for Emergency Management at BNPB, Maj. Gen. Budi Irawan, who inspected the site, requested additional machinery.

“Given the scale of the landslide, I asked for eight excavators last night, and this morning I requested four more. In total, 12 units are needed,” Budi explained.

He noted that the landslide debris ranges from 2 to 8 meters in depth, making manual searches impossible. He also emphasized that heavy equipment should operate continuously, while human resources can rotate shifts to sustain 24-hour operations.

Search Dogs Deployed

BNPB has also deployed 19 search dogs from the Semarang SAR Office, Central Java Police, and several local police units. Most of the dogs are Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd breeds, trained specifically for SAR missions.

The expanded search operation highlights the severity of the Cilacap landslide, with BNPB intensifying efforts to locate the remaining victims and provide closure for affected families.****
