Fajarasia.co – Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, visited the Pondok Gede Market, Bekasi City, West Java. He checked the prices of food and other basic needs, while listening to the aspirations of the traders.
Puan’s arrival at Pondok Gede Market, Wednesday (21/9/2022), was warmly welcomed by the residents who were present. A number of volunteers waiting for Puan on the market terrace also prayed that the first woman who served as Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives could become president.
“Mrs. president, Mrs. president, Mrs. president,” shouted the residents as they greeted Ms. Puan.
After greeting the residents in front of the market, Puan then went around to the stalls of traders. He had a dialogue with vegetable traders, egg traders, basic food traders, and rice traders.
At the rice seller’s stall owned by a trader named Agus, Puan then bought Pandan Wangi rice and IR rice. While buying, he asked about the increase in the price of rice.
“What about the recent price hikes? Have prices stabilized yet?” asked Mrs.
Agus stated that there was still an increase in the price of rice in the range of Rp 500-Rp 1,500 per liter. He also said the increase in rice led to a decrease in purchases.
“But I’m happy because the increase this time was followed by an increase in the price of grain, so farmers can enjoy it,” said Agus.
Puan asked the attention of the Regional Government and members of the legislature, especially the Bekasi constituency, to pay attention to the Pondok Gede Market traders.
“Moreover, Pondok Gede Market is a dream market and a mainstay market for the surrounding community to get primary and secondary materials,” said Puan.
The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture also stated that his presence at Pondok Gede Market was to carry out the supervisory function of the board. Puan promised to channel the aspirations of the traders.
“I will convey the findings in the market to the Government, especially to control the increase in the prices of basic necessities,” said the grandson of the Proclaimer.
On the occasion, Puan also provided assistance with 1,000 food packages for traders and the people who attended. The basic food packages contain rice, cooking oil, and sugar.
