Supporting Local MSMEs, Puan Buys Salted Eggs in Brebes

Fajarasia.co – During her visit to Brebes, Central Java, the Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, visited the salted egg production center. He also bought up the typical Brebes food and souvenirs.

Puan came to the salted egg production center in Limbangan Kulon Village, Brebes, Tuesday (5/7/2022). Puan saw the salted egg production process at one of the shops at the location, namely the Randi Jaya Shop managed by Mrs. Sulistyowati.

“How long have you been a salted egg craftsman?” asked Puan to the owner of the Randi Jaya shop.

“It’s been 15 years, ma’am,” replied Sulistyowati, who also explained to Puan the process of making salted eggs.

In this shop, Puan saw the steps for making salted eggs since they were still raw materials. Starting from boiling eggs, salting, to the packing process.

“It took 12 days for the salted egg to be ready, Mom. Boiled duck eggs are mixed with cooked iodized salt and bricks. The price per item is Rp. 3,000 if it is boiled, if it is smoked, it is Rp. 3,500,” explained Sulistyowati to Puan.

After seeing the process of making salted eggs, Puan also had time to taste one egg. In fact, the first woman who served as Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives bought quite a lot of salted eggs as souvenirs.

“Salted eggs have become an icon of Brebes and are a great economic potential in Brebes Regency,” he said.

“I bought it to be an additional side dish later, the same for souvenirs at home. This is also a form of our support for local MSMEs,” added Puan.

The craftsmen who had a chance to talk to Puan expressed their aspirations about their needs. These include the provision of communal salted egg stalls, to marketing outside Brebes.

“We will encourage at the Ministry level to cooperate with the Regional Government to promote salted eggs as souvenirs typical of Brebes. Apart from the MSME side, salted eggs can be a supporter of Brebes tourism,” said Puan.

Salted eggs themselves have received national recognition with the issuance of an intangible cultural heritage certificate in 2020. Puan believes that Brebes salted eggs can improve the regional economy if they are better accommodated.

“So besides the shallots, Brebes has salted eggs which can be a mainstay of the regional economy. This must continue to be supported because MSMEs are one of the driving wheels of the economy,” said the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.

The salted egg craftsmen are also grateful for Puan’s attention.

“Thank you Mrs. Puan for coming to visit and shopping. We are very happy to have Mrs. Puan visited,” said Sulistyowati.*****
