Puan Leads Reforestation in Ex-Mining Land in Babel: Don't Finish It's Sweet After Throwing It away

Fajarasia.co – DPR RI chairman Puan Maharani was asked to lead the greening in Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung (Babel). He reminded that the rehabilitation program at former mining sites must run in a sustainable manner.

Puan led the declaration of the Greening Movement in the Province of the Bangka Belitung Islands “My Green Blue Babel” at the direct request of the Acting (Pj) Governor of Babel, Ridwan Djamaluddin, Monday (20/6/2022). The launching of this movement was carried out symbolically by planting trees in one of the former illegal tin mining locations in Pangkalpinang City.

“Take care of nature who has given us so much. Don’t run out sweet, throw it away,” said Puan.

The first woman to serve as Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives reminded all parties who utilize Natural Resources (SDA) in Indonesia to be responsible for their recovery. According to Puan, the reforestation movement like today’s is absolutely necessary.

“We should not only think about receiving or taking natural resources, but we must also think about how to give back to Indonesia’s nature,” he said.

Puan said that from the start of the mining business, rehabilitation activities had to be prepared. The reforestation carried out, including the reclamation of former mining areas, should not only be a form of fulfilling licensing requirements.

“Because this is our responsibility to the sustainability of nature, the sustainability of the Indonesian nation. Indonesian nature is an inseparable part of the sustainability of our lives and national identity and human unity and place, “said Puan.

For this reason, the DPR appreciates the Greening Movement in the Province of the Bangka Belitung Islands. Puan emphasized that the government has an obligation to intervene in caring for nature, especially since illegal mining is rife in Babylon.

“By taking care of nature, we hope to improve the quality of the environment/ecology in the Province of the Bangka Belitung Islands while still encouraging land productivity,” he said.

Puan also said that the government cannot be alone in protecting nature. According to him, cooperation and mutual cooperation from various parties are needed to protect Indonesia’s nature, including the private sector and the community itself.

“And I want to make sure that the Greening Movement does not become like a festive ‘firework’ at the beginning but then dims and disappears without a trace,” added the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.

“This movement has to be sustainable, it has to be consistent, and it has to get bigger. So this greening event should not only be ceremonial. The government must intervene directly,” continued Puan.

The grandson of the Proclaimer of the Republic of Indonesia, Bung Karno, reminded that Indonesia is involved in global efforts to suppress global warming, where the Earth is currently 1.1 degrees Celsius warmer than at the beginning of the last century. Puan explained, if world emissions are not reduced by 7.6 percent per year from 2020 to 2030, then the world will not reach the Earth warming target of 1.5 to 2 degrees Celsius.

“Our hope is that what is being done in the Province of the Bangka Belitung Islands is an encouragement for the reforestation movement that needs to be carried out throughout Indonesia,” he said.

“By mutual cooperation, we preserve the nature of the archipelago. With mutual cooperation, we save the Earth,” added Puan.

Meanwhile, the Acting Governor of Babylon, Ridwan Djamaluddin, said that his party will continue to oversee the reforestation movement so that it becomes a sustainable rehabilitation program.

“We will intensively maintain the trees planted today for the next 3 months,” said Ridwan.*****
