Police Arrest Malaysian Fishing Boat While Stealing Fish in Aceh Waters

Fajarasia.co – A foreign fishing boat with a Malaysian flag was secured by the Ditpolair Korpolairud Baharkam Polri in Aceh waters for allegedly stealing fish. During the arrest, one captain and five crew members (ABK) were detained.

The Head of the Sub-Directorate of Water Patrol of the Ditpolair Korpolairud Baharkam Polri Kombes Pol Dadan said those detained were Malaysian citizens. The arrests were made on Saturday (21/5/2022).

“At that time, at around 10.00 WIB, the police ship KP Antareja-7007 detected a foreign fishing boat in the Malacca Strait. Then KP Antareja chased and secured the foreign ship KHF 1790 which has a Malaysian flag,” said Dadan at the Mako Ditpolair Korpolairud Baharkam Polri, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, Wednesday (25/5/2022).

The Malaysian ship, which tried to run away from the pursuit of KP Antareja, was finally stopped. Polair officials immediately conducted a search and found 1 ton of fish of various types in the ship.

“After the ship was secured, it was then escorted to the Langsa port dock for further inspection,” said Dadan.

The results of the inspection showed that this Malaysian ship was catching illegal fish using trawler nets in Indonesian waters. It is suspected that this ship has been carrying out its forbidden practice for about 10 years.

“Losses that have been secured from the illegal fishing activities amounted to IDR 27 billion for 10 years the ship has been operating,” explained Dadan.

The suspects were arrested and charged with Article 85 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 31 of 2004 concerning Fisheries. The threat of a 5-year sentence and a maximum fine of IDR 2 billion.****
