Fajarasia.id – Indonesia has announced its commitment to import 15 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) of oil and gas from the United States without going through a tender process. The move is part of reciprocal tariff negotiations between the two countries.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto confirmed that the import assignment will be carried out by PT Pertamina (Persero). “The assignment will be given, among others, to Pertamina, with a volume of around 15 million BOE,” Airlangga said at the Coordinating Ministry’s office in Jakarta.
The purchase is estimated to be worth US$ 15.5 billion, equivalent to Rp 257.3 trillion (exchange rate Rp 16,600/US$). Airlangga noted that the government will issue derivative regulations, including a Government Regulation (PP), to govern the commercial purchase of oil and gas from the U.S.
Meanwhile, the import of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from the U.S. will be handled by private sector commitments. “This also opens opportunities for other parties planning to buy energy from America,” he added.
Airlangga emphasized that the signing of the tariff agreement with the U.S. is targeted to be completed by the end of this year. “We still have time until December,” he stated.
The initiative is expected to strengthen bilateral energy cooperation between Indonesia and the United States while supporting Indonesia’s energy security strategy.****
