Fajarasia.id – Indonesia holds significant potential to enter the modern Intellectual Property (IP) industry, according to Minister of Culture Fadli Zon. He highlighted the nation’s vast cultural wealth, ranging from world-renowned heritage sites such as Borobudur and Prambanan to diverse cultural expressions across Aceh to Papua.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of Universitas Nasional Academic Year 2024/2025 Period II at JICC Senayan, Jakarta, on Saturday (Nov 15, 2025), Fadli encouraged graduates to uphold Indonesia’s cultural identity amid global challenges.
Culture as a Source of Creativity
“Indonesia has enormous potential to enter the global IP industry. Borobudur, Prambanan, and cultural sites from Aceh to Papua are extraordinary examples of our IP,” Fadli said after delivering his academic speech.
He urged young generations to treat culture as a source of strength and creativity, emphasizing values such as consensus, cooperation, and compassion. According to him, cultural identity is the foundation that shapes who Indonesians are, strengthens national character, and distinguishes the nation globally.
Mega Diversity as National Capital
Fadli underlined Indonesia’s “mega diversity,” with 1,340 ethnic groups and 718 languages—representing 10 percent of the world’s linguistic wealth. Beyond art, Indonesia’s cultural assets include literature, traditional games, local cuisine, rituals, manuscripts, and intangible heritage.
“This richness is a civilizational capital that many countries do not possess,” he added.
Support from Creative Economy Ministry
The Ministry of Creative Economy has also paid close attention to Indonesia’s growing IP sector. Deputy Minister Irene Umar praised the quality of Indonesian IPs, noting that several have already gained international recognition.
“I am delighted to see new IPs emerging. Indonesian IPs are impressive, and some have already gone global,” Irene said. She expressed optimism that Indonesia’s intellectual property will continue to advance and support the creative economy as a sustainable growth engine.
With its vast cultural diversity and heritage, Indonesia is poised to strengthen its role in the global IP industry, turning cultural identity into a driver of creativity and economic growth.*****
