Commission III DPR Holds Meeting with Police, Prosecutors, and Supreme Court to Discuss Legal Reform

Fajarasia.id  – Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) convened a meeting with the National Police (Polri), the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung), and the Supreme Court (MA) to deliberate on strategic steps for strengthening Indonesia’s legal reform agenda. The session took place at the Commission III meeting room in the Parliament Complex, Senayan, chaired by Deputy Chair Rano Alfath.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief of Police Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, Deputy Attorney General Asep Nana Mulyana, Head of the Supreme Court Supervisory Body Suradi, and Commission III Chair Habiburokhman.

During the discussion, Rano Alfath highlighted that despite 27 years since the 1998 reform era, challenges remain in ensuring legal supremacy and judicial independence. “Legal reform, which should uphold human rights, still faces many issues within our partner institutions—police, prosecutors, and courts,” he remarked.

As a follow-up, Commission III announced plans to establish a Working Committee (Panja) on Reform for the Police, Prosecutors, and Courts. Habiburokhman emphasized that this initiative responds to public demands for fairer and more effective law enforcement.

“This Panja will specifically receive complaints from the public regarding alleged violations within these three institutions,” Habiburokhman explained, noting that the committee is expected to be formally established in the coming week.

Through the Panja Reform initiative, DPR aims to enhance oversight of law enforcement institutions while providing an official channel for citizens to voice concerns. Lawmakers hope this step will serve as a crucial momentum to promote transparency, accountability, and justice in Indonesia’s legal system.***
