Fajarasia.co – British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste Owen Jenkins appreciated the leadership of the Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X in dealing with COVID-19.
“I really appreciate his leadership in handling the COVID-19 pandemic and his concern for the health and safety of the people of Yogyakarta,” said Owen Jenkins after meeting Sultan HB X at Gedhong Wilis, Kepatihan Complex, Yogyakarta, Tuesday.
According to Owen, apart from discussing health and handling COVID-19, his meeting with Sultan HB X discussed the potential for cooperation between DIY and the UK in the creative economy, digital economy, and education sectors.
“This is my official visit to Yogyakarta as British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste and I have the honor of being accepted by Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X,” he said through a release received by the Editor, Wednesday (22/6/2022).
Together with the Sultan, Owen discussed the process of digitizing the manuscripts owned by the Yogyakarta Palace in England.
According to him, the British Library has communicated about the manuscripts belonging to the Yogyakarta Palace with the DIY Regional Government and the National Library.
“We are very pleased that the digitization of the manuscripts carried out in 2019 went very well and there are priorities for future digitization. The governor (DIY) spoke a lot about the work that the Keraton is doing to support this project, such as seminars and exhibitions. We are looking forward to further collaborations in this area,” he said.
Owen expressed his pride because DIY became one of the hosts for the G20 Presidency series.
“I am here attending the G20 Health Ministerial Meeting which took place from yesterday to today. I am happy that the Digital Working Group was held in Yogyakarta and is a special ‘tribute’ for Yogyakarta as the right host for this activity,” he said.****
