Attorney General’s Office Respects DPR’s Plan to Establish Legal Reform Working Committee, Open to Criticism

Fajarasia.id – The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has expressed openness to the plan by Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) to form a special working committee (Panja) on legal reform, which will cover the police, prosecution, and judiciary. The initiative is seen as a step by lawmakers to deepen discussions on strengthening Indonesia’s legal system before moving to formal decisions.

Head of the AGO’s Legal Information Center, Anang Supriatna, stated that while the institution respects the DPR’s plan, it has yet to receive a clear explanation regarding the specific objectives of the Panja, particularly in relation to the prosecution service.

“We respect the plan, but so far we still do not fully understand the purpose of the Panja for the Attorney General’s Office,” Anang said on Sunday (November 16, 2025).

Anang added that the AGO has already undertaken significant internal reforms over the past five years, which have contributed to rising public trust in the institution. Nevertheless, he emphasized that the AGO remains open to input and criticism, which he described as valuable for improving performance and accountability.

Background of the Panja Initiative
Earlier, Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman explained that the formation of the Panja was in response to widespread public concerns about law enforcement. He expressed hope that the committee would provide concrete solutions to systemic issues within the police, prosecution, and judiciary.

“We want to find solutions so that the justice system truly delivers fairness and quality law enforcement,” Habiburokhman said on Friday (November 14, 2025).
