Fajarasia.co – Alex Marquez will partner Fabio Di Giannantonio starting the 2023 MotoGP season following the announcement of the Gresini Racing team on Sunday ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix in Assen.
The two-time world champion from Spain will replace Enea Bastianini, who will move to Prima Pramac Racing or the factory Ducati team.
Marquez was the Moto3 and Moto2 world champion in 2014 and 2019, with a collection of 40 podiums including 12 wins and two second-place finishes in the premier class in 2020.
Marquez made his MotoGP debut in 2020 in the Repsol Honda team as a partner with his brother, Marc Marquez, before being demoted to the LCR satellite team which he played for for two seasons.
Having left LCR Honda with this season’s visitors, the 26-year-old will start his fourth season in MotoGP and his first time riding a Ducati.
“I am very happy to announce that I will be joining Team Gresini MotoGP, and I am very excited to start this new adventure,” said Marquez.
“It was crucial for me to change in order to recover the same motivation as when I first joined this class.
“This is the best option for me, with a team that has helped make the history of this championship.”
Di Giannantonio, who was quite successful in his rookie year in MotoGP after securing a pole position and best finish in P8 this season, said he was pleased to be able to continue his struggle with Gresini.
“Continuity is the key in MotoGP so I can work in the best way possible,” said Diggia.
“Obviously the aim will be higher, we will use the second part of the season to improve our results and then next year I want to really make that progress.”
