US Reportedly Considers Safe Passage for Maduro if Ousted in Venezuela

Fajarasia.id  – The White House is reportedly weighing the option of granting Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his close allies safe passage to another country should efforts to remove him from power succeed, according to a report by Politico citing internal sources.

The publication noted that safe relocation for Maduro is one of several scenarios being discussed by aides to President Donald Trump as they deliberate next steps in Venezuela. Officials believe Maduro could potentially move to Turkey, though Russia, Azerbaijan, or Cuba are also considered possible destinations.

At the same time, US officials are said to be evaluating the possibility of capturing Maduro and prosecuting him in the United States. While the Trump administration continues to maintain communication with Venezuela’s opposition, detailed talks about the country’s future have not yet involved them.

Earlier, NBC reported in late September that the US military was reviewing options to strike drug trafficking networks operating within Venezuela. In November, Trump declared that Maduro’s leadership was “numbered in days,” while stressing that Washington had no intention of waging war against Caracas.

Regional reactions have been sharp. On October 21, Colombian President Gustavo Petro criticized US actions, accusing Trump of attempting to subjugate Venezuela under the guise of combating narcotics trafficking. Petro argued that Washington’s true aim was to control Venezuela’s oil resources, adding that attacks on vessels had already killed 27 Latin American citizens—an act he said clearly violated international law.
