Fajarasia.co – Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Body (Baleg) of the DPR, Willy Aditya, considers the Draft Law on Mother-Child Welfare (RUU KIA) to be in line with UNICEF’s vision. The vision is to encourage parents to take six months of leave after giving birth.
“Some countries have also adopted paternity leave rules which are considered as a form of support for gender equality,” Willy told reporters on Thursday (23/6/2022).
At least, he said, nearly 40 countries in the world have introduced leave policies for male workers. That is so that they can help a wife who has just given birth to take care of the child.
“Actually, in Indonesia there are already companies that implement this paternity leave. But the amount can be counted on the fingers,” he explained.
“Paternity leave or paternity leave is still considered no more important than maternity leave for mothers. So not many companies offer parental leave with benefits to fathers who have just had children,” said Willy.
In fact, the NasDem politician continued, paternity leave is very important in children’s growth. He also hopes that the MCH Bill can provide equal opportunities for mothers and fathers in raising children.
“This bill is important to ensure that the state comes with a big mission to prepare high-quality Indonesian human resources. Then they are able to lead collaborative work with other nations in the future,” said Willy.****
