President Jokowi checks cooking oil prices at Muntilan Market

“How much is this, ma’am?” asked the President of the food seller who is also the owner of a kiosk at Muntilan Market, Titin Suryani, as quoted from a press release received in Jakarta, Saturday.

“If 1 liter is Rp. 14,500, 1 kilo (kilogram) is Rp. 15,000,” replied Titin.

At the market, the President and Iriana also took the time to shop for spices and vegetables, such as red chilies, onions, carrots, bitter melon, and turmeric. Jokowi also bought crackers and baskets made of woven bamboo.

In a press release from the Press, Media and Information Bureau (BPMI) of the Presidential Secretariat, a smile appeared on the face of Almisih, a seller of woven bamboo baskets, because he was very happy that Jokowi had bought his merchandise.

“I was given Rp. 100,000, even though the price (the basket) was Rp. 15,000,” said Almisih.

Jokowi also asked the price of vegetables at Muntilan Market. When the merchant stated the price, the President offered the price of the vegetables jokingly.

“‘The price is Rp. 10,000, Rp. 7,000, eh?’ The president said that, but we knew (the president) was just joking, then we were given money,” said a vegetable trader named Pur.

After walking around the market and greeting the sellers and visitors of Muntilan Market, the President and Iriana distributed aid directly to the beneficiaries.

Also accompanying the President and Iriana on the visit were Social Minister Tri Rismaharini and Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo. *****
