Political observer Khoirul Umam believes that the cooperation between Gerindra-PKB and Golkar, PAN and PPP in the United Indonesia Coalition is based more on practical political calculations.
“So far the pattern of the coalition formed has not shown a clear vision and mission meeting, including who the figures will be displayed. While PDIP as the ruling party has not yet given a strong signal, where will the pendulum of its coalition lead. But one thing is clear, according to Khoirul, the party led by Megawati Soekarnoputri is preparing Puan Maharani to compete in the upcoming presidential election.
“I heard that there was an internal effort by PDIP to turn on the political machine to make it more effective in carrying Ms. Puan,” he said.
The PDIP’s political decision was also confirmed by Puan’s speech as chairman of the DPR, ahead of the 77th Indonesian Independence Day.
At that time, Puan made an analogy with the balance of the flapping of a bird’s wings, and emphasized that the placement of women in public positions is a common practice in a democracy.
“It is a strong signal of how Puan is able to show her capacity to enter into patriarchal politics, and to become a representation of women to run in the 2024 presidential election,” Khoirul analysis.
He admitted that there were still people who underestimated Puan because of the big shadows of her grandfather and mother. But according to Khoril, in the political world, Puan’s position is not that simple.
