Paluta Marks 18th Anniversary with Renewed Economic Growth of 4.44%

Fajarasia.id  – The Regency of Padang Lawas Utara (Paluta) celebrated its 18th anniversary with optimism and reflection during a special plenary session held by the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) on Friday (Nov 21). The event brought together government officials, community leaders, and residents to honor the region’s journey since its establishment.

In his keynote address, Regent Reski Basyah Harahap emphasized that the anniversary was more than a ceremonial occasion—it was a tribute to the sacrifices and dedication of the pioneers who fought for the creation of Paluta under Law No. 37 of 2007. “This regency was born out of sincerity and the great sacrifices of its people and founders,” he said.

Reski highlighted Paluta’s achievements over the past 18 years, noting that the local economy, which contracted to 1.14% in 2020 due to the pandemic, has rebounded to 4.44% in 2024. Indicators of social welfare also show progress: the Human Development Index (HDI) rose from 71.85 in 2008 to 74.16 in 2024, while poverty levels dropped from 11.89% in 2009 to 8.97% in 2024.

The regent pointed out that open unemployment has been reduced significantly, from 10.9% in 2014 to 3.99% in 2024. However, he cautioned that income inequality remains a challenge, with the Gini ratio increasing from 0.24 in 2023 to 0.29 in 2024.

Reski underscored the importance of effective planning, precise budgeting, and strict oversight to ensure that regional spending directly benefits the community. “Budget limitations must drive innovation, not hinder development,” he stressed.

He also called for stronger collaboration among local government, DPRD, communities, and both provincial and national authorities to accelerate development and unlock new economic opportunities. Harnessing local potential, he said, is key to sustainable growth.

Closing his remarks, Reski urged all residents to unite under the cultural philosophy of Dalihan Natolu—a principle of harmony and mutual respect. “Let us build Paluta into a region that is faithful, intelligent, progressive, and cultured. We must face the future with optimism and a commitment to service,” he declared.

The special plenary session was attended by former regent and regional founding figure Drs. H. Bahrum Harahap (2008–2018), DPRD leaders, Forkopimda representatives, local government agencies, subdistrict heads, women’s organizations, and other invited guests.****
