This commitment was emphasized by the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Menpora RI) Zainudin Amali when giving a statement to the media after chairing a cross-sectoral coordination meeting related to the readiness for the 2022 FIBA ​​Asia Cup at the RI Ministry of Youth and Sports office, Senayan Region, Central Jakarta on Monday (27/6/ 2022).

“From the start, the government was strongly committed to the success of the FIBA ​​Asia Cup. If you don’t commit, then the instructions don’t come out. Because the Presidential Instruction is a sign of the government’s commitment to the success of this event,” said the Minister of Youth and Sports to the media.

Amali said the meeting was held only to gather representatives in the relevant cross-sectors. Amali wanted to know how far the latest developments in preparation in each field were.

“I just wanted to check, not build an initial commitment. It was collected for the last check, about what to accelerate. If you have made a commitment from the start, you want to be the host, then the government has committed to it from the start,” continued the Minister of Youth and Sports.

Regarding the acceleration in preparation for the event, according to Amali, namely the details of the preparations that adjust to the development of the situation. Such as accelerated visa on arrival (VOA) for FIBA ​​Asia Cup participants from 15 countries to come.

“The acceleration was related to things such as visas on arrival and others,” said Amali.

The FIBA ​​Asia Cup is scheduled to take place on 12 – 24 July 2022. Later, there will be 16 participating countries and will be divided into 4 groups.

Prior to the implementation of FIBA ​​Asia, there will be a series of activities leading up to the day of the event. Starting with two matches in the FIBA ​​World Cup 2023 Window 3 qualification between the Indonesian Basketball National Team against Saudi Arabia on July 1 and three days later on July 4, 2022 the Red and White Team will meet Jordan.

Although it is a qualifying match for the FIBA ​​World Cup 2023, this match will be a warm-up event to measure the strength of the opponent and test the development of the Indonesian national team. Because Saudi Arabia and Jordan are in the same group with Indonesia and Australia in Group A at the FIBA ​​Asia Cup later.****
