Fajarasia.co – The Women’s National Commission (Komnas) expects the process of discussing the Draft Criminal Code (RUU KUHP) to be transparent and participatory. The reason is, it affects public confidence in the DPR and the Government.
“We hope that the Criminal Code Bill is not limited to discussing 16 issues that the government has submitted to the DPR. But also paying attention to the connection between the Criminal Code Bill and the Sexual Violence Law which was promulgated by the government last May,” said Komnas Perempuan Commissioner Siti Aminah Tardi, Wednesday (29/6/2022).
Komnas Perempuan hopes that the Government will immediately provide an updated draft of the Draft Criminal Code so that it can be accessed by the public.
“By being accessible to the public, the public and Komnas Perempuan can provide input,” said Siti.
In addition, the Draft Criminal Code must be able to ensure the interests of women, especially those in the Act on the Crime of Sexual Violence.
“It would be better if the government uniformed the completion of the draft and then submitted it to the DPR and the public could access it,” he hoped.
He stressed the importance of public participation in the discussion of legislation because it is guaranteed by the constitution.
“The mechanism is carried out through hearings, in writing as well as in the processes of extracting people’s aspirations. So if concerns are opened to the public, it will cause polemics or pros and cons, I think that is a normal thing in the culture of a democratic country,” said Siti.* ***
