Fajarasia.co – Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), Gilang Dhielafararez hopes that the Indonesian Government’s meeting with Russia and Ukraine will produce positive results. Indonesia, which has the goal of realizing world peace, is expected to be able to bridge the conflict between the two countries.
“Indonesia must be a bridge of peace for Russia and Ukraine who are in conflict. As a country that has lofty ideals, we must be actively involved in realizing world peace,” Gilang told reporters, Friday (6/24/2022).
The DPR’s BKSAP supports President Joko Widodo’s efforts to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow after attending the G7 Summit in Germany as guest countries. Gilang said that the peace diplomacy step was in line with Indonesia’s free and active politics.
“Moreover, as the holder of the G20 presidency this year, Indonesia has an important role as a mediator for its member countries, including partner countries,” he said.
This PDI-P politician reminded that the protracted conflict between Russia and Ukraine had an impact on humanitarian issues and global crises that needed to find a way out immediately. A number of countries have even experienced energy and economic crises due to Russia’s policies in the aftermath of its conflict with Ukraine.
“Peace between the two countries must be achieved because it has affected global economic and food conditions,” he explained.
The DPR encourages President Jokowi’s meeting with the President of Russia and the President of Ukraine to fight for a ceasefire. Gilang said that the DPR itself also continues to try to bridge the conflict between Russia and Ukraine through parliamentary diplomacy.
“The conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to cause humanitarian casualties, which cannot be tolerated. As a country that upholds humanitarian principles, Indonesia cannot remain silent,” he concluded.
