Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure Monitors Irrigation Projects in West Kalimantan

Fajarasia.id – Special Staff to the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Herzaky Mahendra, carried out a series of working visits to West Kalimantan to oversee the implementation of Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 2 of 2025. The inspections took place at two locations: Sanggau Kulor in Singkawang City and Dusun Senseng, Segedong Village, Sambas Regency.

Herzaky was accompanied by key officials including M. Tahid, Head of the Kalimantan I River Basin Office; Taufan Adrianto, Head of SNVT PJPA Kalimantan I; Provincial DPRD member M. Isa; and several local community leaders.

Strengthening Food Security

Inpres No. 2/2025 outlines the acceleration of construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of irrigation networks as a strategic step toward achieving national food self-sufficiency. The policy is one of the government’s priorities to reinforce food security and improve farmers’ welfare.

At Sanggau Kulor, Singkawang Timur District, Herzaky inspected the construction of a secondary irrigation channel stretching approximately 4 kilometers. The project is expected to irrigate around 35 hectares of farmland that previously relied solely on rainfall. Plans also include the development of reservoirs to ensure a more stable water supply throughout the year.

“Irrigation development must truly support food self-sufficiency and deliver tangible benefits to farmers,” Herzaky emphasized in a written statement on Sunday (Nov 16, 2025).

He added that the initiative aligns with President Prabowo’s directive that infrastructure should boost regional productivity and community welfare, consistent with Coordinating Minister AHY’s mission to position infrastructure as a driver of the people’s economy and a pillar of the food sector.

Monitoring in Sambas

Herzaky continued his evaluation in Dusun Senseng, Segedong Village, Tebas District, Sambas Regency, where he reviewed progress on a tertiary irrigation channel currently 400 meters long, with plans to extend it to 1 kilometer. The project will support approximately 45 hectares of farmland.

“We are ensuring farmers can increase productivity with proper irrigation. Once completed, it must be maintained collectively and monitored during construction,” he said.

Segedong Village Head Yendi noted that the area, dominated by rain-fed fields, has enjoyed more stable water supply since a normalization project two years ago. Out of 192 hectares of farmland, farmers now produce an average of 600–800 kilograms per hectare.

“With irrigation, farmers no longer face water shortages. Hopefully, this will bring blessings and improve harvest yields,” Yendi remarked.

Meanwhile, Dusun Senseng Head Sabirin Fauzi expressed appreciation and optimism that agricultural productivity would rise, enabling farmers to harvest up to three times a year. Dusun Senseng is home to about 200 households, with four farmer groups and one cooperative known as Sumber Anugerah.***
