China deploys J-16 on joint air patrol with Russia

Fajarasia.co – For the first time the Chinese Air Force deployed J-16 fighter aircraft on air patrols with the Russian Air Force.

The sighting of the fighter plane which began serving in the Chinese Air Force in 2017 was seen on CCTV news broadcast, local broadcast media, Monday (30/5/2022).

Two J-16 fighter jets were seen flying alongside a Chinese H-6K bomber and a Russian Tu-95MS bomber.

In its report, CCTV said the two air forces were patrolling the Sea of ​​Japan, East China Sea and West Pacific on Tuesday (24/5).

This is the fourth joint patrol since 2019 with the aim of enhancing the capabilities of the Chinese and Russian air forces and enhancing mutual trust and pragmatic military cooperation between the two countries, said Chinese Ministry of National Defense (MND) spokesman Senior Colonel Wu Qian.

A typical J-16 is similar to the United States Air Force’s F-16 and Russia’s Sukhoi Su-27.

The twin-engine and twin-seat aircraft was designed by Shenyang Aircraft Corporation.

The J-16 is armed with two PL-10 short-range guided missiles and long-range air missiles.****
