Fajarasia.co – Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison conceded defeat on Saturday and the opposition Labor Party is closing in on nearly a decade of elections ahead, thanks to support from independent climate policy campaigners.
The result of the conclusion that while Labor had a slight advantage, Morrison’s National Liberals were voted for by voters in Western Australia.
The Greens and a group of so-called “teal” independents, campaigning for policies, combine gender and dealing with climate change, natural disasters, voter turnout for inaction to change that followed Australia’s floods and fires.
The new parliament is less climate-skeptic than the parliament that backs Morrison’s coal mines government.
“Tonight, I have spoken with opposition leader and future prime minister Anthony Albanese. I congratulate him on his victory tonight,” Morrison said as he said goodbye as party leader.
Albanese said he would unite the country.
“I think people want to meet, find common goals, look in the same direction. I think people are divided, what they want is to come together as a nation and I, to lead that.”
According to current results, Labor has yet to reach 76 of the 151 lower house seats needed to form a self-government. The final results will take some time when the postal vote count is complete.
With a vote count of 55 percent, the Labor Party won 72 seats and Morrison 52 seats. The Independents and the Greens won 11 seats, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corp. Meanwhile, the other 16 seats are still unknown.
The Labor Party is ahead in pre-election polls, although surveys show the Liberal-National government narrowed support in the final session of the six-week campaign.****
