Fajarasia.id – Former Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR), Bambang Wuryanto, has spoken out regarding allegations of a fake doctoral diploma involving Constitutional Court (MK) Justice Arsul Sani.
Bambang, popularly known as Bambang Pacul, emphasized that from a legitimacy standpoint, Arsul had fulfilled all requirements during the fit and proper test as a candidate for the Constitutional Court. “In terms of legitimacy, it is clear. Legality is also clear. All requirements were met. Of course, we did not conduct forensic examinations,” he told reporters.
Diploma Shown During DPR Test Bambang explained that Arsul had presented his original diploma along with legalized documents during the DPR’s selection process. However, he admitted that the legislature does not have the capacity to verify the authenticity of such documents through forensic methods. “The legalization was there, and it was clear in Commission III. But we do not have forensic experts,” he added.
Recommendation to MK’s Ethics Council He suggested that the issue should first be addressed through the internal mechanism of the Constitutional Court’s Honorary Council (MKMK) to avoid unnecessary public uproar.
Police Report and MKMK Review Previously, the Alliance of Constitutional Observers filed a police report against Arsul Sani on November 14, alleging the use of a fake doctoral diploma obtained from a university in Poland. In response, MKMK Chairman I Dewa Gede Palguna stated that the council is still conducting a review. “We are examining whether there are ethical issues or violations related to this matter. The process is confidential, but the results will be announced once completed,” Palguna explained.
Profile of Arsul Sani Arsul Sani was officially appointed as a Constitutional Court Justice on January 18, 2024. Prior to his judicial role, he was a senior politician with the United Development Party (PPP) and served as Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR). Born in Pekalongan on January 8, 1964, Arsul studied law at the University of Indonesia and pursued further education abroad, including in the United Kingdom and Poland. His claimed doctoral degree has now become the focal point of the controversy.***
