Unhealthy Air Quality, Residents Are Asked To Keep Masks

Fajarasia.co – Nafas Indonesia CEO and Founder Nathan Roestandy reminded Jakarta residents to keep wearing masks when doing activities outside their homes following the unhealthy air quality in Jakarta.

Quoting the IQAir website, Jakarta’s air quality level is still “unhealthy” with an index of 155 on Sunday (19/6/2022). In the ranking of air quality and city pollution, Jakarta ranks fourth as the most polluted city in the world after Riyadh Saudi Arabia, Dubai UAE and Santiago Chile.

“If you are doing outdoor activities or have to do outdoor activities, use an N95 mask and make sure that it is covered so that air does not enter from the cracks. This N95 mask has been proven to be able to filter pollution particles which are very small in size and can filter particles -virus particles,” Nathan said in a conversation with Pro 3 RRI, Sunday (19/6/2022).

He advised people to switch to public transportation to reduce Jakarta’s air pollution.

“This has something to do with environmental friendliness, so we have to switch to public transportation and reduce private transportation like that,” he explained.

Nathan said that the poor air quality was caused by community activities and the entry into the dry season.

“So there are several factors, of course, community activities are a factor. But we also have the weather factor because we enter the months of June to July and August is the dry month. And in the dry month the wind decreases and usually this is actually pollution, if pollution carried out by the factory industry or motorized vehicles is more or less consistent every year. But the weather factor will determine whether it will be worse in certain months,” he explained.

According to him, the transition to electric vehicles is very helpful in reducing Jakarta’s air pollution.

“Of course the transition to electric vehicles will be very helpful and if Trans Jakarta has taken the initiative to slowly remodel their vehicles to become electric,” he explained. ****
