The United Nations Appreciates the Handling of Covid-19 in Indonesia

Fajarasia.co – The handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia has received appreciation from the United Nations (UN).

The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid, conveyed this in his remarks at The 7th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) 2022 which was held at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), Wednesday (25/5/2022).

“We are all very happy to see Bali, come together today’s face-to-face event on a large scale. I have been informed that around seven thousand participants have registered for today’s meeting. This is a testament to the strong commitment and efforts made by the Indonesian government, under the leadership of Yang His Excellency President Joko Widodo to fight Covid-19 and return the country to a recovery path,” said Abdulla Shahid.

Furthermore, Abdulla Shahid also conveyed his appreciation to the Indonesian government for hosting the 2022 GDPRR in the midst of the global recovery from COVID-19.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Indonesian government for hosting the global platform for disaster risk reduction and to commend both Indonesia and UNDDR for this joint effort,” he explained.

The same thing came from the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Amina Jane Mohammed, who appreciated a number of steps and policies taken by the Indonesian government in handling the COVID-19 pandemic in the country so that the 2022 GPDRR conference could be held face-to-face and safely. He also appreciated the achievement of the Covid-19 vaccination in Indonesia.

“Vaccinating a population of 270 million is a great achievement, and we applaud Indonesia’s leadership for its vaccine program to keep everyone safe,” said Amina.

Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo in his remarks said that the COVID-19 pandemic in the past two years was the biggest disaster in the world, which has infected 527 million people and claimed the lives of up to 6.3 million people.

The President said the Indonesian government implemented dynamic policies according to the current situation to maintain a balance between the health side and the economic side.

“The Indonesian government implements dynamic policies according to the current situation, implements the ‘gas and brake’ policy to maintain a balance between the health and the economy and has proven to have a good impact,” said the President.

In front of the delegates, President Jokowi also explained that Indonesia consists of more than 17,000 islands and has succeeded in injecting at least 411.5 million doses of vaccine. As a result, daily cases declined sharply and economic growth was well maintained.

“Daily cases fell sharply from 64.7 thousand at the peak to 345 cases. Economic growth was maintained at 5.01 percent and inflation was at a safe level of 3.5 percent,” he concluded. ****
