Fajarasia.co – The Ministry of Investment / Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) brought home a number of investment interests from the 2022 World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in a number of sectors.
Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia mentioned a number of sectors that have a lot of interest, among others, related to carbon, downstreaming, and the development of the National Capital (IKN) of the Archipelago.
“The biggest interest is carbon. Carbon is a new thing in Indonesia,” he said at the WEF 2022 press conference which was monitored online from Jakarta, Wednesday night.
Bahlil explained that his party had a meeting with Standard Chartered CEO Bill Winters and agreed to discuss Indonesia’s carbon issue in Jakarta.
Bill Winters himself is Chair of the Taskforce on Scaling Voluntary Carbon Markets, which sets the global standard for high-quality carbon credits.
Bahlil also encouraged that Indonesia’s carbon market should be built in Indonesia, not abroad.
“We agree that the Southeast Asian carbon market, the stock exchange is in Singapore. I said, why should Singapore? Why not in Indonesia? So, there are several companies building there (Singapore). in Indonesia. Do not sell Indonesian goods elsewhere,” he said.
Another sector that global investors are interested in, continued Bahlil, is downstreaming. He revealed that he had met with a Swiss company to downstream low-calorie coal into DME and ethanol.
“The investment value has not been announced because they will conduct a more detailed study,” he said.
Other investment interests were also conveyed for IKN development. However, Bahlil did not specify the value of the specific project being targeted.
“The existing investment interest, I’m sorry, we can’t calculate it with certainty because some of our friends who expressed interest in investing made a commitment not to first leak it to the media. However, rest assured that the souvenirs we brought from WEF are quite good,” he said.*****
