Fajarasia.co – The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, reflects on the Birthday of Pancasila, June 1, which falls today as a struggle to glorify humans and create world peace in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic that has not completely disappeared, and the ongoing geopolitical conflict.
“Pandemics and wars both take human victims. Therefore, the reflection on Just Civilized Humanity on the Birthday of Pancasila is very relevant,” said Puan, Wednesday (1/6/2022).
Puan recalled how the philosophical principle of ‘internationalism’ or ‘humanity’ which became the spirit in the Second Precept of Pancasila was clearly formulated by Bung Karno at the BPUPK Session on June 1, 1945.
“That just and civilized humanity is the idealization of the struggle to glorify human rights as well as to participate in the struggle for world peace and justice,” he said.
Puan recalled how the principle of internationalism or humanity was coined by Bung Karno so that Indonesian nationalism would not adhere to chauvinist nationalism, but become a nation that embodies world brotherhood. On the other hand, said Puan, Bung Karno’s internationalism was not cosmopolitanism (anti-nationalism).
“Internationalism cannot thrive if it is not rooted in the earth of nationalism. Nationalism cannot thrive, if it does not live in the essence of internationalism,” said Puan quoting the Proclaimer who was also her own grandfather 77 years ago.
Furthermore, Puan invites all elements of the nation to be able to realize the struggle to honor humans. He said the DPR RI’s struggle to ratify the Sexual Violence Act (UU TPKS) was part of the earthing of just and civilized humanity.
“That with its constitutional duty to draft laws, the DPR wants to glorify, protect human dignity, including women, so that sexual violence can be prevented and dealt with progressively so as to provide justice for victims,” said the first woman who served as Chair of the DPR.
Puan said, the struggle to honor human beings will not stop being carried out by the DPR through the legislative products that will be produced. For example, the Bill on Maternal and Child Welfare is currently under discussion at the Legislative Body.
“We want the state to be present to prosper mothers and children, from the womb, birth and after birth. All of this is for the sake of advancing and glorifying humanity,” he said.
“Happy Pancasila Birthday June 1,” said Puan.****
