Minister of Communication and Informatics Johnny Plate: Indonesia Trains Society for Digital Skills

Fajarasia.co – Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G. Plate said the Indonesian government continues to train people to have digital skills, in order to accelerate the national digital transformation agenda.

According to him, the government is also encouraging ecosystem collaboration to provide digital talent.

“The demand for digital talent is huge. Last year, we conducted basic digital skills training for 12.5 million Indonesians in one year and are targeting 5.5 million participants to take part this year,” he said in a statement received by rri.co.id from the Public Relations Bureau of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Tuesday (24/24). /5/2022).

This was stated by Johnny in the discussion session “Indonesia Pavilion: Deepening Digital Growth in The New Economic Landscape” which took place in a hybrid manner from Davos, Switzerland, Monday this week.

Through the Digital Literacy National Movement Program, Johnny stated, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics trains Indonesian people to have digital skills at the basic level. At the same time, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics is also preparing Indonesian talents to have digital skills at the intermediate level through the Digital Talent Scholarship Program.

“This year what we are going to do is about two hundred thousand millennials. We need 9 million intermediate digital talents for the next 15 years, meaning that every year we have to make sure we have 600 thousand intermediate digital skills, which is certainly not easy,” he explained.

According to him, from the need for 600 thousand digital talents, the Government provides support to train 200 thousand participants.

“Government support is one-third of the 600 thousand skills training and I hope the ecosystem also joins in to ensure mid-sized digital talent will be available in numbers of their quality and capacity,” he said.

Johnny assessed that the preparation of talent at the intermediate skill level is one of the efforts to get global technology companies to be willing to join in helping the Government’s program.

“In fact, I also still want all ecosystems including telecom operators to join us, to ensure that intermediate skills will be available on time,” he added.

In addition, at an advanced level, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics also provides training to support digital policy making. He emphasized that digital policy making is currently not available in large quantities.

“There are about 500 trainings for every year. It works closely with leading global universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Tshinghua and many others, to ensure that digital policymakers will be available to Governments.”

In the event, the Minister of Communication and Information was accompanied by the Director General of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics Usman Kansong, as well as the President Director of the Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics Anang Latif.****
