Fajarasia.co – The state must continue to provide equal rights and opportunities to persons with disabilities through the organization of various activities, such as the 2022 National Special Olympic Week (Personas) in Semarang, Central Java.
“Our attention to groups of people with disabilities in the country must continue to be increased in order to fulfill equal rights and opportunities for every citizen,” said Deputy Chair of the MPR RI, Lestari Moerdijat in a written statement, Monday (4/7).
This week, on July 3-8 in Semarang, Central Java, as many as 1,724 athletes with disabilities from 12 sports demonstrated their abilities at the National Special Olympic Week (Pesonas).
Pesonas is an extension of the National Sports Week (Pornas) organized by the Special Olympics Indonesia (SOIna) every four years.
Pesonas 2022 is also a selection event for athletes who will represent Indonesia at the 2023 Summer Olympic World Games (SWOG) in Berlin, Germany.
According to Lestari, various activities that involve people with disabilities must be a common concern so that the government and the community are able to build commitment and concern in realizing the independence of people with disabilities.
Therefore, said Rere, Lestari’s nickname, the government, academia, the private sector and the community are encouraged to partner with disability organizations in planning activities and real actions whose benefits can be felt by people with disabilities.
The Pesonas event, added Rere, is part of our collective efforts to provide the widest possible access for persons with disabilities in the context of implementing more inclusive policies.
The bottom line, said the Member of the NasDem Party Upper House, is how to minimize the obstacles faced, provide appropriate access and provide space for persons with disabilities to participate.
On the other hand, explained Rerie, efforts to make people with disabilities able to excel at national and international levels, such as what was done in this Pesonas event, at the same time build their self-confidence as well as their nationalism.****
