Fajarasia.co – Head of the Communication Bureau for Public Information Services and Cooperation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Agung Pribadi, said Germany expressed its desire to establish cooperation in coal supply from Indonesia.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif met with the CEO of the Association of Coal Companies in Germany (VDKI) and also the CEO of HMS Bergbau AG, Lars Schernkau, at the Palace Hotel Berlin, Friday (27/5) local time.
“At the meeting it was stated that 50 percent of Germany’s coal supply comes from Russia, and with the current situation, Germany wants to develop cooperation in coal supply from Indonesia,” Agung said in a press statement received by the Editors, Sunday (29/5/ 2022).
During the meeting, continued Agung, Minister Arifin also asked VDKI to coordinate with associations of similar companies in the European region, including ensuring the availability of port facilities, as well as the terms and conditions for the contract.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources projects that Indonesia has 91.6 billion tons of coal resources with reserves of 31.7 billion tons.
In 2021 the realization of Indonesia’s coal production will reach 614 million tons or 98.2 percent of the target of 625 million tons. Meanwhile, the realization of domestic coal utilization was recorded at 133 million tons or 96.7 percent of the target of 137.5 million tons.
As is known, the effects of the war between Russia and Ukraine have had an impact on the energy supply in Europe. Moreover, the European Union leaders agreed to eliminate all coal imports from Russia.
According to the International Energy Agency, Russia will be Europe’s largest coal supplier in 2021, with Germany among the highest imports of Russian coal. About 10 percent of Germany’s electricity is generated by burning coal.****
