Embankment Broken, Flooding in Tangsel Is Widening Residents' Settlements

Fajarasia.co – The flood disaster in South Tangerang City (Tangsel) has spread to 17 points.

The Department of Water Resources, Bina Marga and Construction Development (DSDABMBK) of South Tangerang City is still struggling to handle it.

The head of DSDABMBK for South Tangerang, Robby Cahyadi, said that the current flood problem is being handled in an emergency manner by taking quick and appropriate actions to reduce the volume of water.

“While we are still handling the emergency at the Bintaro Regency villa and Pondok Maharta, there is also an embankment wall (made by residents, ed) that has broken,” he said, Sunday (17/7/2022).

He explained that the emergency response was meant to solve the flood problem in the community, including by making temporary embankments using sandbags.

“Emergency handling only, installation of emergency embankments from sandbags, suction of puddles with pumps, cleaning of debris and garbage,” he said.

Robby also claimed that before the rainy season arrived, the Tangsel DSDABMBK actually made efforts to normalize rivers and streams that cross flood-prone residential areas in South Tangerang.

“Normalization before the flood has been carried out. Both in rivers, rivers, water reservoirs or drainage. Currently we are handling several flood points, launching the Angke River flow, one of them,” he said.

Robby admitted, with the high intensity of rain like last Friday, the Angke River in South Tangerang has become stagnant due to piles of garbage along the river.

“A lot of bamboo crosses and becomes a pile of garbage in the river,” he explained.

South Tangerang City BPBD Head, Uci Sanusi, said that only 14 floods in Tangsel on Friday (15/7/2022) night.

“Currently, it has expanded to 17 points,” he said. (Arf)
