DPR Commission VII Criticizes Tourism Spatial Planning, Urges Minister to Lead Solutions

Fajarasia.id – Deputy Chair of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Evita Nursanty, has raised concerns over the management of tourism spatial planning in Indonesia. She argued that several tourism developments are not aligned with the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) or the National Tourism Spatial Plan (RTDN).

Speaking during a working meeting between Commission VII and the Ministry of Tourism at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta, Evita highlighted examples of projects that she believes deviate from established plans. “Many destinations are being developed without compliance to RTRW and RTDN. For instance, the nickel mining in Raja Ampat and the construction of a glass elevator at Kelingking Beach in Bali,” she said.

Evita explained that problems in Bali came to light during a Commission VII field visit. According to her, Bali Governor Wayan Koster pointed out that the issue stemmed from the Online Single Submission (OSS) system, which requires urgent improvements. “I want the Minister to take the lead in fixing this system,” Evita emphasized.

Despite her criticism, Evita acknowledged the efforts of Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana in promoting Indonesia’s tourism sector. She praised initiatives such as gastronomic tourism and wellness tourism, which she said have successfully attracted high-spending visitors.

“Promotion has been extraordinary, but tourism development should not only focus on short-term gains. We must build for the long term,” she noted.

Evita stressed that while spatial planning issues may not fall entirely under the minister’s responsibility, she expects Minister Widiyanti to take a leadership role in finding solutions. “It may not be the Minister’s fault, but since this relates to tourism, she must act as the leader,” Evita concluded.****
