DPR Approves the Elected Members of Komnas HAM, Puan: Hopefully Women's Rights Will Be Guaranteed

Fajarasia.co – The Indonesian House of Representatives approved 9 candidates for members of the Indonesian National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) for the 2022-2027 period. The chairman of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani, hopes that all elected members of the National Human Rights Commission can protect the rights of the people to the maximum, especially the rights of women.

The ratification of candidates for members of the National Human Rights Commission of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2022-2027 period was carried out at the 8th Plenary Session of the First Session of the 2022-2023 Session Year at the Nusantara II Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (4/10/2022).

The agenda for the first plenary meeting today is to approve the results of the fit and proper test conducted by Commission III of the DPR regarding the 9 candidates for Komnas HAM members on 30 September. A total of 9 candidates for Komnas HAM members were selected from a total of 14 candidates.

“The chairman of the Council congratulates the candidates for the National Human Rights Commission of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2022-2027 period. Hopefully they can carry out their duties with responsibility and trust,” said Puan, who chaired the Plenary Meeting.

The elected Komnas HAM members were Atnike Nova Sigiro (Chairman), Abdul Haris Semendawai, Anis Hidayah, Hari Kurniawan, Prabianto Mukti Wibowo, Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi, Putu Elvina, Saurlin P. Siagian, and Uli Parulian Sihombing. There is an additional number of Komnas HAM members for the period 2022-2027 with the hope that Komnas HAM’s performance will be more effective and faster in resolving cases of human rights violations.

Puan also appreciated the election of Atnike Nova Sigiro as the new Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission to replace Ahmad Taufan Damanik. Atnike became the first woman to be elected as Chair of the National Human Rights Commission in Indonesian history.

“Hopefully with the election of the Chair of the National Human Rights Commission for women, the rights of Indonesian women will be guaranteed,” said Puan.

The first woman to serve as Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives added that the election of Komnas HAM members for the 2022-2027 period had fulfilled the gender principle because 3 of the 9 commissioners came from among women. Puan hopes that the elected Komnas HAM members can work with full integrity, professionalism and credibility.

“The Indonesian people are waiting for the best work from the new Komnas HAM members,” said the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.

In addition to ratifying the elected Komnas HAM members, the Plenary Session of the DPR today also approved the decision of Commission III of the DPR regarding the revocation of the approval of the fit and proper test results against Sudradjat Dimyati as a Supreme Court Justice at the Supreme Court (MA). Sudrajat Dimyati has been named a bribe suspect.

The DPR’s decision regarding the elected Komnas HAM members and the revocation of approval for the fit and proper test Sudrajat Dimyati will be sent to the President. The agenda for the next Plenary Meeting is the submission of an Summary of the First Semester Examination Results of 2022 along with the Report of the Examination Results of the First Semester of 2022 by BPK RI.

“The results of the BPK examination can be used as input for the Council, especially the DPR RI commissions to discuss and follow up on it in the context of oversight and budget tasks through Working Meetings and Hearing Meetings with their respective partners,” explained Puan.

The last agenda of the Plenary Meeting was the Speech of the Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Closing of the First Session of the 2022-2023 Session Year. The House of Representatives will enter a recess period for the First Session of the 2022-2023 Session Year starting from 5-31 October 2022.

Puan reminded all members of the DPR to absorb as many people’s aspirations as possible during the recess.
